Hip-Hop/Rap
A.k.a. Kevin Hansford
K-DEF’s musical synapses formed amidst Hip-Hop’s golden-era of late night radio DJs andthe then-emergent art of sampling. Being creatively inspired and active during this unique point in time granted K-Def a position constantly ahead of the curve when it came to production and DJing, both conceptually and technologically. His arc from apprentice to master propelled throughout the 1990s and 2000s working with artists from LL Cool J, Lords Of The Underground, Larry-O (as Real Live), Ghostface Killah and Diddy, to scoring for television networks HBO and BET, earning him praise as “a producer’s producer” from critics and musical peers alike (Dr. Dre sampled a K-Def production for a track on his Aftermath LP). Having observed all of the stylistic upheavals of the genre since its inception, the New Jersey native remains committed to the dynamics of break-beat sampling with the same passion he had when witnessing its creation. Today, K's growing discography is solidifying his place in Hip-Hop history and is audibly documenting his evolution with unreleased works from the 90’s and new material utilizing revolutionary, contemporary production techniques.
