A.k.a. Christian Kay
K-Delight's reputation is largely built on the skill with which he manipulates samples, taking rare and unheard pieces of music and reworking them into parts and phrases for his songs. “Total genius” was the title given to K-Delight by Hip Hop Connection magazine on their review of mix album The Wonder Years. K is a DJ, Producer and Writer with a great track record. Having been part of the Hip Hop/Breaks scene for the past 20 years he has released some classic material from the Scratchtastic Controlling The Hip Hop ep which sold in its thousands in Japan to the dance floor friendly One Man Big band ep which was a favorite of Annie Nightingale’s on Radio One. “ Roughly the best thing you will ever hear ” Touch Magazine “ A raw madcap UK version of DJ Shadow” Melody Maker “ The grooves are neck – snapping in the extreme” DJ Magazine Better known as the Scratch Assassin, K has produced some of the most successful DJ scratch tracks with appearances on more than 15 mix cds and compilations in Japan alone where he has a very loyal fan base. An original member of the Jeep Beat Collective from Manchester who were featured on the classic ‘Return Of The DJ’ album and also worked with renowned labels such as Ninja Tunes, Bomb and Bolshi. The Jeep Beat Collective we’re one of the first crew’s in the world to reintroduce the art of scratching back on the music map and had some sizeable success with it. Their album The Technics Chainsaw Massacre was released on Bomb records in America and reached No.1 in the CMJ College Radio airplay charts and their tracks were regularly licensed to compilations such as Journeys by DJ’s and The Document by Andy Smith. Although his DJ style is very technical and influenced by hip hop dj’s such as Jazzy Jeff and Cash Money his sets actually encompass a lot of different styles ranging from Breaks, Soul, Reggae, Funk, Electro as well as Hip Hop and R&B. K recently went on tour with DJ Yoda across the UK and dazzled the next generation of music lovers with his ability to keep each and every one rooted to dance floor whilst keeping the Hip Hop heads happy with the occasional flashes of turntableism. This was swiftly followed by the DMC tour with Woody and Dopey in 2005, which won K more fans of his DJ madness. Over the years he has also supported touring artists such as Jazzy Jeff, Rahzel, Wu Tang Clan, Biz Markie, Cold Crush, Souls of Mischief, Cash Money and many more. In 2005 K was approached by Temper (one of the most successful graffiti artists in the UK) to put together a live mix session that can be downloaded for free for the launch of his new temper-bmc.com website. This mix has since been downloaded over 25,000 times from music lovers around the world and has been charted alongside DJ Shadow and Z-Trip in the top ten DJ downloads on the net! Also in 2005 K set up Playing Around Records with award winning producer Evil Ed in Brighton. The first vinyl release was K-Delight’s The Real Thing ep, which is collaboration with his long time co-producer The Voodoo Guru, and features the amazing DJ Kentaro from Japan and some guest production from Evil Ed. The full-length artist album by K-Delight followed this in 2008. The album was a progression from his days of using purely samples, instead opting for live musicians to replace the loops for a more organic sound. The musicians are from a range of backgrounds such as Jazz, Rock and Funk. There was also some great featured artists on there including DJ Kentaro, DJ JS1 (Rock Steady Crew), Jazzy Jeff, Woody, Dr Syntax (Foreign Beggars), 2Tall, Chrome (Def-Tex), J-Red, Krash Slaughta, Evil Ed and an incredible track with legendary graffiti artist Temper. 2007 saw the release of his mix cd Ctrl: Alt: The Beat which was released by UKHH.com who are officially the most hit UK web site in the world. This is the first release on the label and promises to be a hit with many high praising reviews already in the music press…… "Ukhh.com has employed DJ K Delight to chop and slice an assortment of classic UK gems alongside a variety of tracks from our current crop of artists...ukhh.com is one of the most trustworthy UK websites dealing exclusively with hip-hop and K Delight is a f***ing pioneer. Sorry about the language, sometimes it's necessary" DJ Excalibah (BBC) A complete retrospective of the UKs Hip Hop scene past and present, spliced and diced by K Delight, getting my thumbs up for sure!" Disorda (Itch FM/Boombox Distribution Network) "You need this in your life” Mr Lawson (Itch FM) "No one knows the home-grown scene better than the UKHH.com collective, and very few have the love, skills and decades of familiarity with the roots of the culture necessary to put a mix together with the finesse of K-Delight. In an underground sewer clogged with inferior and poorly conceived mixtapes, this represents nothing but the real shit, baby..." Ewan Huzarmi (Undercover Magazine/Itch FM) "UKHH have put together not just a solid compilation but a dope mix CD that demonstrates how much good Hip Hop is really emerging from the UK, with this many tracks there was still hundreds that couldn't be included, that's how prolific the scene has become!" Joe Braintax (Low Life Records) K-Delight is back in full effect for 2018 and beyond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
