Album 2012 on WotNot Music label
Electronic and Hip-Hop/Rap (Hip-Hop)
K’s mastery of soul and jazz is evident throughout this release, with musical nods to 70s soul, 80s funk, 90s hip hop all in title track Theme Music For A Pariah. Even his roots in jungle and garage come through on the subtle footwork feel of Nanosmiles. While K is expert in balancing wonk and groove with a range of innovative percussive sounds and styles, the musicality is just as inspiring, with the multiple synth-laden counter-melodies of Beat Intoxication and drops of the skippy nod to the golden age of hip hop, In Remembrance. Channeling an MPC 200XL through Reason, K’s set up is the ultimate metaphor for his music, full of classic hip hop feel with a strong progressive edge where many of today’s producers are left sounding straight and insubstantial.
