Kaethe Hostetter is a Boston-area violinist and violist in the Ethiopian pop Debo Band and the Zena Bel Band. She spent years as a violist in orchestras in the greater Boston area, including the Boston Philharmonic and New England Philharmonic. While in conservatory, she toured several times with circuses. She has also played with free jazz notables such as Jim Hobbs and Butch Morris and Fred Frith. Traditional sounds from around the world have been an additional major influence in her music. Traveling to Ethiopia with Debo Band was a turning point in her life, leading her to found the Ethiopian String Center.
