South African Kallitz (pronounced "Coloureds") are an Afrikaans-language hip-hop crew from Bellville, conceptualised in 1998. Their songs concentrate on the unique Coloured culture -- referring to the people of mixed race living predominantly in the Western Cape. Promoting themselves via the internet and live performances, the group consisted of producer/rapper Dokte, pianist/rapper Boere and rapper Skeem and was signed to Mothermix Records in 2004. Debut album "Die ding ruk mal" was released the same year to critical acclaim, picking up several awards. Member Skeem (who hails from Kuils River and studied sound engineering at the Cape Audio College) departed in 2005 to join a rock band. Sophomore album "Dukgesuip" was released by the duo remaining the following year.
