A.k.a. Kaspar (also Caspar) Füger der Ältere
Kaspar Füger the Elder (born c. 1521 in Dresden, died after 1592) was a German Lutheran pastor and hymn writer. He wrote a Christmas carol, "Ihr Christenleut", which was used by several composers. Johann Sebastian Bach set different stanzas of it, on the tune by Johann Crüger, for his Christmas cantatas 'Darzu ist erschienen der Sohn Gottes', BWV 40 (1723), and' Unser Mund sei voll Lachens', BWV 110, and as the final chorale in Part III of his 'Christmas Oratorio' of 1734. He had a son, Kaspar Füger the Younger / der Jüngere (born 1562 - died 1617), who was a composer and cantor.
