Kate Carr has been avidly following the ups and downs of the critically endangered kakapo since discovering the bird via David Attenborough. Her piece paints a vivid picture of New Zealand by night. ''I wanted to convey the freakiness of what this bird actually does. Constructs a big dirt bowl, hops in the centre of it, inflates itself and booms across the freezing mountain tops, eerie hardly begins to describe it.''
