A.k.a. Katia Cunha Rocha
Kátia Rocha a brazilian instrumentist, composer and interpret, a more than 10-year-on-the-road artist. A peaceful born under Taurus woman, but a stage-energetic swing musician, Kátia has always had a very eclectic taste for music that ranges from Billie Holliday to “Gonzaguinha “, from “Milton Nascimento” to Jethro Tull. She started her studies on transversal flute during the times she coursed Physical Education in college and when she headed for Rio, she also studied singing, sax, acoustic guitar and musical harmony. Her history with the sax had already begun some years ago, when she got the instrument from her father, and that soon enough seemed awkward and the lady decided to sell it. Barely did she know that the sax would become her main musical instrument at the beginning of her career. In the 80’s, she took part in some bands as “Jogo de Cintura”, on a partnership with Ricco Duarte and as “Confusion Jazz Co.” – dedicated to instrumental music. The experience of The Confusion band was registered on a album that was released in 1992. In 1996, she decided to fly solo with her álbum “Kátia Rocha”, with musical arrangement by Leandro Braga and participations of Zé Renato and Elisa Lucinda, her co-writer for the song Espírito Santinho, one of the 10 songs in the album, which talks about the beauties of their homeland and has become one of the dearest songs for hometowners. The release of this album took place in Carlos Gomes Theatre, in Vitória, with the musical group Boca Livre, and also in Mistura Fina and cultural place for entertainment Sérgio Porto, in Rio de Janeiro, and on with a tour throughout the northwest part of the country, in the Pixinguinha Project with long-time singer João Nogueria, who passed away some years ago.
