Kaushiki Chakraborty was born 1980 in Kolkata, India. She is the daughter of Chandana Chakraborty and the renowned Indian classical singer Ajoy Chakraborty. At age seven, she started learning Indian classical music at the academy of Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh, later joining ITC Sangeet Research Academy. Under the inspiring tutelage of her mother and father she had her first major concert at the age of 16 at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi. The audience comprised of a few of the greatest names in Hindustani music, including Zakir Hussain, Allah Rakha Khan, Sultan Khan, Amjad Ali Khan et al. The Verdict of that evening was unanimous: the next big phenomenon In Hindustani music has arrived..! Since then Kaushiki has performed at all the leading music festivals in the country and has had many foreign tours, her music has been featured in several Bollywood films and she has won numerous awards. Kaushiki is a deserving inheritor of her father’s mantle as torchbearer of the Patiyala tradition.
