Album US 2008 on Origin Records label
Jazz and Pop (Cool Jazz)
On her second Origin release, vocalist Kelly Harland teams up with the great Bill Mays for a simple and sophisticated collection of Jerome Kern classics. The collaboration between Harland and Mays began when Bill heard one of Kelly's previous albums and became a fan. Kelly had already established a love affair with Bill's playing many years before, so when they met at the Pt. Townsend Jazz Festival they talked about recording together. Bassist/producer Chuck Deardorf rounds out the trio for a dreamlike set of songs perfectly suited to Kelly's mellow tone. Featured songs include "Yesterdays," "The Folks Who Live on the Hill," and "I'm Old-Fashioned." As one of the top studio and background vocalists in Seattle for many years, Kelly made a name for herself playing behind such acts as Ray Charles and Etta James. She toured with many bands and became a seasoned studio singer, contributing to many national albums, singing on hundreds of commercials, as well as recording her own material for major labels Epic and A&M.
