Musician of Rock, Jazz and Blues
San Francisco Bay Area Drummer. Ken Owen is a Bay Area native and has been a professional musician and song writer since the late 70’s. Ken served as musical co-director for The Rick Slyter Band through the 80's and 90’s, and later became part of the award winning country-jazz quartet The Ten Gallon Cats featuring guitarist Jim Campilongo that toured with folk legend Peter Rowan at festivals including Telluride Bluegrass (Colorado), Strawberry, and High Sierra (California). Ken also played with local country music favorites Mental Revenge featuring Joe Goldmark and Gary Wayne Claxton, and Johnny Dilks and his Visitation Valley Boys. Ken was also a member of the "2005 Best Bay Area Alternative Country Band" Valerie Jay and The Americanos (country rock originals). More recently Ken has been fortunate to share the stage with such luminaries as Emmy Lou Harris, Peter Rowan, Jim Lauderdale, Buddy Miller, Nina Gerber, Blaine Sprouse, and Bobby Black. Ken can be heard playing in Bay Area clubs with Mitch Polzak (rockabilly/country), Randy Craig (jazz), Maurice Tani (original americana), Jinx Jones (rock-a-billy, surf, rock and roll, jazz), The Soul Delights (vocal soul), Big B. and his Snakeoil Saviours (western swing big band) and Joe Goldmark and The Seducers (50s/60s country and rock covers). Ken has also enjoyed helping out these highly recommended Bay Area bands on a few shows: Robert Kennedy Trio (jazz), The South City Blues Band (blues), The Nancy Wright Trio (jazz and r&b), Doug Blumer (original and cover americana/country), The Lee Vilensky Trio (surf instrumentals), Bravo featuring Doug Adamz (celtic) and Big Lou's Polka Casserole (traditional and modern polkas).
