Born in 1959 from Surinam heritage. He started his musical career at a very young age. As a young boy already he was moved through music. He came to live in the Netherlands in 1975, where he became RastaFarian at the age of 20 years. After working with various artists and started a couple of bands (i.e. Dasjan and The Revivals) KENDREAD decides to continue as solo artist in the year 1991. He releases the cd “Culture Crash” in 1993 with the musical accompany of Dasjan. MUSIC KENDREAD’s writes his own music and lyrics and is easy to recognize due to it’s unique sound. Religion, progressiveness and realism influences his lyrics. “I create my own sound”, KENDREAD explains, ”No cross-over to hiphop or rap, only pure ROOTS REGGAE”. HISTORY “The Warriors”, it was the first reggae band KENDREAD played with. After that he founded in 1985, together with some friendly musicians, the formation “The Gideons”. With them he recorded the single “National Team”. In 1990 he was, together with his brother/drummer Edgar and the bassist Jahman the base on witch the group called “Dasjan” (a mountain in Ethiopia) was founded. That same year KENDREAD joined ArtCon Music Productions, founded by Arthur Conley (1946 - 2003†) Dasjan performed in 1991 at “The Grote Prijs van Nederland” and made it through to the semi finals. They were also invited for live performances for several national radio stations. Furthermore KENDREAD decides that year to go on as a solo artist 1992, KENDREAD performs as a guest musician with the reggae formation “The Creator’s” from Arnhem. With them he releases the cd “Sranang lobie foe mie hatie”. In Suriname, this cd becomes so popular that when “The Creator's” went out for a three months tour at there home country, they received a hero’s welcome and the song “Sranang” was chosen as national song. “Culture Crash” is the first cd KENDREAD releases as solo artist in 1993. With “Dasjan” as a accompany band KENDREAD performs national and international. Later the single cd “One Love”(1996) and the cd “Lion Train” (1998) where released where KENDREAD was accompanied by “The Revivals” during live concerts. KENDREAD and his backing band The Revivals performed on regularly bases in Germany with big, Jamaican artists like: Michael Prophet, Nardo Ranks, Errol Dunkley and others. Also the tours to Austria and Sweden had proven to be a big success and experience. The year 2002 brought a lot of changes, also for KENDREAD. That year he decides to focus more to make the youth excided for music and culture. Although KENDREAD puts in almost al his time with this, he still finds the time to work on his new cd, together with his new band “The Maroons”. “NEW WORLD” is the title. A cd with 12 songs; a variation of not yet released songs, known hits in a new style and totally new songs, in witch Roots Reggae and RastaFari speaks clearly.
