Musician / Composer / Arranger / Producer
A.k.a. Khrystopher Williams
Khrys Williams (born March 16, 1995) is a trumpeter, composer, arranger, music producer, rapper, and songwriter from a small town called Nederland, TX. Currently known for their work in hip-hop, jazz, and their role as a synth player and one of the head arrangers in the J-MUSIC Ensemble, Khrys has been playing music professionally for over five years. Over those years, they have shared the stage with prominent figures across all genres, such as James Williams and the New Orleans Swamp Donkeys, and RC Williams (of RC & The Grits). Well-known for their unique and significant performances on the trumpet, Khrys has performed in both jazz and classical events spanning the country in a wide variety of settings, from Jazz at Lincoln Center to indie theatre houses. Now living and working in New York City, they remain a highly-recognized trumpet player and composer in his home state, gaining recognition from state-wide organizations like the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). Ever since they wrote their first tune for a big band at age 15, their compositions and arrangements have been featured by jazz bands and high school bands throughout East Texas and big bands at the Manhattan School of Music. They pride themselves on not only an encompassing a variety of musical genres – such as neo-soul, J-Pop, or classical constructions – in their works, but also on their identity as a musician in the LGBTQ+ community. They now run their own music publishing company and record label KRINGUS Media, where they sell their original compositions, arrangements, and albums. They are also accomplished in digital music production and has done work for a diverse clientele from off-Broadway productions to rappers/singers as well as scoring films. They also are one of the main arrangers in the J-MUSIC Ensemble, an 8-piece instrumental band that covers Japanese music and puts into the context of American "jazz" music. While their ventures into jazz and music production have given them recognition, Khrys is also known for their talents in hip-hop and emceeing, known for their hard-hitting and smooth tastes in instrumentals and their raw, witty, layered, and sometimes observational lyricism. After graduating from Manhattan School of Music with a BM in Jazz Composition in 2017 and poised to keep the momentum going, Khrys is currently working on their debut jazz album as well as their next hip-hop projects.
