Band,
A.k.a. John Gray & Tiger Jones
Kid Seven is not a person - Kid Seven is a record label typing error. Back in 1990, John Gray was a professional radio DJ and went by the on-air name of Kidd Cannon. John and Tiger (a friend of Johns and a local club DJ / musician) were asked to create a special version of MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" for 92.9 KKBQ Houston, the station where John was working at the time. It was common back in the 80's and early 90's for Top 40 radio stations to create their own versions of songs in order to maintain a faithful audience. The response to John and Tiger's mix was so immense that John made copies of the mix and sent them to radio stations all over the US. 106 KMEL San Francisco was one of the stations that received a copy. Hosh Gurelli, who was the music director at 106 KMEL, contacted John directly and told him the the tune had become the most requested song in KMEL history - at the time, of course. There was no further contact between the two after that. How the remix ended up in the hands of Capitol Records UK is unknown but it is believed that Hosh Gurelli is the one responsible for the pressing and for giving the remix the title of "KMEL Mix". To add insult to injury, neither of John nor Tiger's names were used with the pressing - John's radio name of Kidd Cannon was lost in translation somewhere and ended up being printed as "Kid Seven". John and Tiger were never contacted by KMEL, Hosh or Capitol Records UK about the remix, never asked to supply an original master tape and were never paid one penny for their work.
