Producer of Dance
A.k.a. Alex Warren Alex Warren (3)
London based DJ, producer and wonder-kid Kiwi, aka Alex Warren, stepped back into the spotlight mid 2015 with the release of his ‘Animals’ EP on Duke Dumont’s Blasé Boys Club imprint. The debut EP featured 4 genre bending tracks, informed by Kiwi’s passionate and eclectic music tastes. Notably A side ‘Short Tail’ went on to be nominated for a ‘Best of British’ award for track of the year, and was listed in the top 10 tunes of the year by DJ Mag. This tried and tested blueprint can be seen and felt in his DJs sets, which often genre hop from the Balearic, Disco, Soul to Detroit-Techno, House and everything in between without ever letting up on the dance floor; a classy form from a classy artist. If you are new to Kiwi’s music and artistry, do not be misled, Alex has progressively become one of the most exciting young producers in the UK Dance scene. Previously releases on Defected, Sneaky, Needwant, Kitsune and Deep Shit, and with a string of remixes for Duke Dumont, Petite Meller and Lane 8, have helped consolidate this opinion for many pundits, with the Animals EP the perfect musical milestone in the Kiwi story. The story of Alex ‘Kiwi’ Warren has a humble root as an in-house promoter for world famous ‘DURRR’ night, the club started by Erol Alkan’s much celebrated Trash team post end date back in late 2007. As a young art-student at Goldsmiths Alex started Orlando Boom, and sister Disco-night Kate Boss. These sold out parties caught the attention of the Columbo Group, who were launching a new club in Dalston called ‘The Nest.’ Impressed by Alex Warren’s passion for music and success as a one-man promotions company they appointed him booking and promotions manager for The Nest. Since opening in 2013 ‘The Nest’ continually push expectations of a small club with massively ambitious line-up’s fuelled by legendary crowds and their unbridled dance floor antics. All of this should be counted as a testament to Alex ‘Kiwi’ Warren’s relationship with the Night and the Music. It wasn’t long before Kiwi figured out he had more to offer then his promoter skills and decided to take to the decks, a gamble that paid off immediately. Without a moments hesitation Kiwi went to work making 2014 his own. During this period Kiwi released ‘The Guanako Haka’ EP on Days of Being Wild, the ‘Dawn’ EP with Ashworth on Sneaky, and ‘Llama’ on Jack Savidge and Edwin Congreave’s much-acclaimed Deep Shit label which went on to be rereleased on Defected. Further output was seen on Needwant, a track on Clouded Vision compilation and the massive ‘The Mara’ release on Duke Dumont’s Blasé Boys Club. Then came the Remixes for Wankelmut, Duke Dumont, Who Made Who, Bonar Bradberry, Few Nolder, Is Tropical, The Klaxons and many more, further extending Kiwi’s reach and earning support from Andrew Weatherall, DJ Harvey, Daniel Avery, Erol Alkan, Duke Dumont, Rob da Bank, Annie Mac and Skream amongst others. With all this love and material Kiwi has taken his music and DJ Sets around Europe; with brilliant DJ performances at Warehouse Project in Manchester, Amnesia Ibiza, The Arches Glasgow, Palais De Tokyo in Paris, Razzmatazz in Barcelona, as well back to back sets with Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe and Friendly Fires. On top of this he holds down a residency at The Nest, XOYO and as a touring DJ with Duke Dumont’s Blasé Boys Club Night’s. As you can see, we have the humble beginnings of a great artist here. What Kiwi lacks in Quantity he more then makes up for with Quality.
