Though Kixly has always featured a distinctive electronic ambient sound, the music originally maintained an aesthetic rooted in shoegaze and certain elements of twee. The style has gradually shifted to include sounds more akin to the tape loop experiments of William Basinski, the hauntological sounds explored in the Ghost Box label, and the fractured compositions of Tim Hecker and Lucky Dragons, the latter cited as one of his main influences. The song “Air, Trees, Color Patterns” was featured in a States Rights Records compilation titled Grown Zone, along with tracks by other notable artists as High Places, Eats Tapes and YACHT.
