Musician of Dance
A.k.a. Mikolaj Gramowski
Born and raised in the city of Poznań in Poland, 22-year-old Mikołaj Gramowski grew up fully immersed in a hotbed of musical inspiration. From eagerly sifting through his parents' jazz collection to mastering the art of piano as a young teen, Gramowski soon discovered a burgeoning UK club scene, drawing influence from the likes of Joy Orbsion and Deadboy. Yet it was his discovery of the modern day Renaissance man, Nicolas Jaar, which led to the birth of Klaves. He notes "when I heard his first EP and realised he was only a year older than me, everything changed”. Fast-forward to the present day, and Klaves has already had the pleasure of touring Poland with Jaar, absorbing pockets of genius in the process. His breakthrough EP, People/Oh No (listen below), was released in October 2014 through the critically acclaimed PMR Records. Known to many as the house of Disclosure, Jessie Ware and Julio Bashmore, PMR took to the melodic wizardry of Klaves and his expertly moulded airy percussion with harmoniously unforgettable synths and razor-sharp vocal cuts. Skream, Annie Mac and Tensnake have peppered Klaves all over BBC Radio 1, whilst SBTRKT, Catz 'n Dogz and Monki are among a series of A-graders also quick to support the young Polish prodigy. On top of that, he's rapidly gaining recognition from the tastemakers of the scene with i-D, FACT and Resident Advisor labelling Klaves as one to keep a very fervent eye on in the coming months.
