Alternative, Pop and Classical
KunK are an Alternative Rock four piece based in Norwich featuring brothers James and Wayne Davey on vocals and guitar, Hannah Veale on Bass, and Will Marshall on drums. The band draw influences from a wide range of Alternative, Rock and Indie bands ranging from Queens Of The Stone Age to Pavement, The Fall to the Foo Fighters. Released in January 2003 "...the end.", a collection of fourteen songs recorded by James and Wayne at home on an 8-track, soon earned the band favourable reviews from Gods Of Music, Demoncow, and BURBs who named KunK as Artist Of the Month in April 2003 saying "Raw, uninhibited, unhinged R n B with punk attitude is what they''''''''re good at. Rough & ready - the edges haven''''''''t been knocked off yet, which gives them an exhilarating power. Come on world, KunK are definitely worth checking out, it''''''''s for your own pleasure. A band as real as they come!". Meanwhile, their song "Ticks, Lice And Fleas" was flying high at number two in the mp3.com Grunge chart, second only to "You Know You''''''''re Right" by Nirvana, "Ulcer" appeared on a cover mount CD for Computer Shopper magazine featuring some of the countries up and coming unsigned acts, and "One Down" was included on the BURBs compilation "Bitter Aftertaste". With interest in their music growing fast and with people keen to hear the songs live, KunK made their live debut at The Brickmakers Arms - Norwich in December 2003. In July 2004 they released a 7-track EP entitled "Pros Minus Cons" and by the end of the month it had already received airplay on BBC Radio 1 after legendary DJ John Peel played "Public Image Ltd" on his show. KunK then followed this up by playing their first gig at the Norwich Waterfront, a slot on the main stage at Halesworths Gig In The Park alongside the Stranglers, a headline gig at The Verge in Camden, and a BURBs Showcase gig at The Square in Harlow. On 22nd October the band performed at the 2004 Pan Awards show in London, where they picked up the first ever "Jenny" Award after being named as Panartist.com’s ‘Most Wanted Band’. Local media soon picked up on the buzz around the band with numerous articles appearing in newspapers, along with local, national and internet radio airplay on Beach FM, Bailrigg FM and Sky Digital''''''''s Pulse Unsigned. 2005 looks set to see the band continue the momentum with numerous local gigs, including a headline slot at the Waterfront, gigs for top promoters Wombat Wombat and Wilde Club at the prestigious Arts Centre venue in Norwich supporting up and coming national acts such as Dive Dive, Cortez and The Mutts, and also plans to hit the studio again.
