Tanzanian hip-hop group from Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania rapping in Swahili. Founded in 1990 and considered pioneers of the 'bongo flava' style of hip-hop which emerged on the East African coast, Kwanza Unit members are Rhymson, D-Rob, Eazy B and Y-Thang. The extended family of the group include The K.U. Foundation: KRV and Gaddy Groove Sajiwa, Lawrence Funkablack, Abura, asd well as the The Universal K.U. family: Mpiji (Germany), Big X (U.K.), Lindu Hefty (Australia), Moe-Cee (U.S.A.). In 1994 they released their first self-titled album. In 1996 they released their second album on RAHH Records titled 'Tropical Teqniks' which they followed up in 2000 with their third release 'Kwanzanians'.
