Tom Lambert received his tertiary music education at The Royal Academy of Music, London where he majored in conducting. For a number of years he was the deputy to Sir Francis Vivian Dunn the Director of Music for The Royal Marines. He was subsequently appointed as Director of Music for The Band Of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth and as Director of Music for HM Royal Yacht Britannia. In 1970 he was created a Member of the Victorian Order for personal service as Director of Music to the Royal Family on the Royal Yacht. In Australia he has conducted for the National Music Camp Association; been an examiner with the Australian Music Examinations Board and was appointed Director of Music to the New South Wales Police Band in January, 1983, before retiring in September, 1988 shortly after recording Cops Play Pops.
