The Sălăjan, Bucharest-based gangsta rap duo, formed in 1996 by Puya (2) and Sișu had become famous throughout Romania with the release of their sophomore effort in 1998, Nicăieri Nu-i ca Acasă (Ain't No Place Like Home). Throughout the late 1990s and the early 2000s, the group dominated Romanian charts with a string of successful singles, before going on hiatus when group member Tudor Sișu was arrested and later sentenced for drug trafficking. Following his release, La Familia reunited and released one more studio album before disbanding in 2011 after a series of failed attempts at reclaiming commercial success. Frequently cited as gangsta rap pioneers in their native Romania, group members Sișu and Puya have remained friendly and occasionally reunited for collaborations before resuming studio work as a group in late 2016 and reforming La Familia.
