Laboratorio de Interpretación Musical

Band,
Classical and Electronic

The LIM (Laboratory of Musical Interpretation) was created in November 1975 with the firm purpose of going to greater depth in the study and performance of contemporary music. Since the debut of its founder members (Esperanza Abad, Rafael Gómez Senosiain and Jesús Villa-Rojo) in Madrid before the public and the media, it has continually been improving its cultural work, whether in its concert, research or educational facets. As an organiser of established concert series, it is the oldest in Madrid, uninterrupted since that date in Bilbao (Festival de Música del siglo XX), Barcelona or Pamplona, among other extraordinary events; whether within our frontiers (with a regular presence in the International Festivals of Santander and Granada, the Quincena Musical Donostiarra, Salamanca, Sevilla, Málaga...), or beyond them, with frequent performance tours in festivals all over Europe (among others, Italy, France, Russia, Hungary…) and Latin America (especially Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico and Brazil). Its capacity to adapt to the ensembles demanded for contemporary chamber music under conditions of an optimum performance quality (Premio Nacional del Disco), have conferred it marked singularity for each one of its public performances. A formal singularity which has ranged from the musical ensemble of its first series, to the innovating clarinet quintet, collaborations with plastic or video artists, electro-acoustic music, soloists or regular chamber ensembles. The production of records (recordings for the following labels: RCA, CBS, Dial, Movieplay, RTVE, SGAE, LIM-BBK, besides the creation of its own label, LIM RECORDS) and books like LIM 75-85, LIM 85-95 and Lim2mil (A synthesis of contemporary music in Spain) have completed this determination to disseminate music. The natural pioneering characteristic of avant-garde music has brought about the obligation of presenting a few hundred premieres, debuts in Spain and abroad, of numerous scores, that in many cases, the authors wrote especially for this group.
