Singer of Jazz
A.k.a. Kim Zombik
grew up in Boston and in the rolling hills of Massachusetts, and since 2008 has happily made Montreal her home. Described as “being a musical jewel”, Kim is a versatile singer of jazz standards, the blues, and funk music. She has shared the stage and performed with a variety of great musical legends. From Jimmy Cliff to Cecil McBee, from the New World Japan Philharmonic Orchestra to Olu Dara, from Eric Alexander to the Wailers, from Grady Tate to Yosuke Yamashita, from Maceo Parker to William Parker, and from Igor Butman to Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers, Kim has sung and swung with verve and grace. She is covering the four corners of the earth in her tours. From Moscow to Boston, from the Ginza International Jazz Festival in Tokyo, Japan to New York Jazz Session of Irkutsk, Siberia, from Soeul, Korea to New York, New York, Kim delivers songs with warmth, power and experience. In Canada, Kim has performed with premier dub poet Lillian Allen in the International Dub Poetry Festival of Toronto, and at the National Center of the Arts in Ottawa in an “Evening Of Circus”. Here in Montreal she has shared the stage with DJ Champion and His G-strings in Montreal’s International Jazz Festival, performed with Kalmunity Vibe Collective, Kathy Kennedy’s 30-woman choir, Choeur Maha, and has held long tenures at the Upstairs Jazz Bar and Grill. She has 10 recordings to her credit, three of which were recorded with Sony/Village Records in Japan. Her first and most recent recordings in Japan have reached the top ten status of SWING Journal Magazine, as well as the 25th spot out of 300 on ORICON, Japan’s jazz Billboard chart. Her vocal style has been called “warm as hot chocolate”, “beautiful”. “natural”.
