Lake

of Hip-Hop/Rap
A.k.a. Eliakim Johnson

Lake grew up in the infamous Queensbridge Housing Projects in New York where he was friends with fellow rappers Cormega, Nas and even Mobb Deep. In 1992 he was sentenced to 7 years in jail for attempted murder and threatening a witness. While he was locked down his name was mentioned a few times by Nas on his debut album Illmatic. After coming home from 7 years in the beast, he linked up with his childhood friends such as Nas, Mobb Deep, Cormega, Littles, Nature, Capone, Noreaga, Killa Sha and even more to release a Queensbridge project titled The 41st Side. The album was a great success with little promotion, but Lake couldn't shake the hands of the law. He got locked up again for attempted murder in which he went to trial for and won. Since then he's done songs with Nas and other known artists. Eventually he figured Nas wasn't really helping him become a success that he could have been, and let the truth out on Jadakiss' Why beat. Soon after, Lake linked up with one of Queensbridge's realest Mc's Cormega who's also dissed Nas on records for the way he handles his business. They recorded an album together and released it in 2006. Although it wasn't major success it is considered a classic to many. Since then Lake has released a few mixtapes and stays on his grind doing whatever he can to make that paper. He linked up with Suge Knight about a year before My Brothers Keeper came out and created Death Row East trying to bring back real hip hop, however he was being watched by the F.B.I. and they shut down the label before Lake could really make anything out of it. Through all his trials and tribulations he continues to make good music, and has even produced a few songs of his own. The world is still waiting on Lake's solo album titled The Big Ride which was supposed to be released on Death Row East. Only time will tell where Lake's career goes. His latest release was American Rat Killer, where he took shots at Prodigy. Were hoping to see a 41st Side Part 2 album but with all the lack of unity it seems unlikely.
