It all began in 1992 on a most memorable night at the legendary independent bar "Spirit Of Mozart" in Karlsruhe-Forchheim. Both musicians had a contract with Spirit Productions at the time: Dirk Lakomy with his band Derrière Le Miroir and Tobias Birkenbeil with his project Factory Life. This happened to be the birth of an artistic friendship which developed to an overall collaboration over the years. While Dirk got famous with his bands Derrière Le Miroir and In My Rosary and for his art photography, Tobias succeeded with his project DNS whose debutalbum “Clouds And Bombs” was released in 1993 by Machinery Records/Berlin. At first the musical cooperation was limited to remixes for Derrière Le Miroir and In My Rosary done by Tobias Birkenbeil, but in 2003 the first combined effort was produced under the name of Lakobeil “Konzept:Unverbindlich” but never released. The production of two audio play CDs followed, containing plays by Dirk Lakomy. While Lakobeil “Konzept:Unverbindlich” was written by Tobias Birkenbeil (and produced by Dirk Lakomy) and had coverversions of “No One Driving” by John Foxx and “TVOD” by The Normal, “Strange Encounter” consists of songs completely done in cooperation of both musicians. The vocal part - which was awesomely done by Tobias Birkenbeil - got his final touch by guest vocalist Stella B. The influences are numerous and range from 80s inspired stuff to EBM, Electroclash, Punk, Techno and classical music.
