"Larry Allen, Clown Prince of the Keys,is more than an entertainer, he's a habit. To hear him once is to stimulate a hunger that is never entirely satisfied. His ease of manner, the broad contageous grin, and the twinkle in his expressive eyes while he's roving among the risque verses immediately captures, not audiences but individuals. His performance is not what might be called "a show" because he has no set routine. He Improvises, localizes, and delights the imagination with a constant change of pace which keeps you listening in order not to miss anything. He is the perfect ham, consequently the perfect entertainer, who enjoys performing as much as you will enjoy lintening. Such ease and audience savvy are the results of many years of entertaining. He began his musical career by pounding the family piano with tiny fists back in South Bend, Indiana. By the time he got to Iowa University, the pounding was refined and accomplished and paid for a large part of his education. In 1942 when the bugles blew all over the world, he began a parade of army shows, notably, "Harlem in Cadence" in North Africa. Taking his discharge in the Philippines, he stayed and filled houses at the top clubs in Manila. In 1953 he came to the Golden Gate Club in Tokyo where he still grins and twinkles and shocks the local and visiting clientele with his purple lyrics. Although a night club entertainer by inclination and choice, he has made many radio and television appearances besides his recordings." "Danny Labaya, straight man for the musical comedy routines, is a golden-voiced "comer" of Hawaiian ancestry who chafes at being compared to some of the big names in the crooning field. At an age when most singers are only beginning, he has already achieved considerable fame and is considered one of Tokyo's top Singers. For one so young, he has a sound and impressive background which had its beginnings in a classical choir. In a All Star Talent show in Honolulu, he was chosen to represent Hawaii and later, as a member of the Air Force, he took a prophetic first place in the "Stars of Tomorrow" show at Channute Field. In addition to making the night club circuit in Honolulu, he has singing in many of the better service and commercial clubs in Tokyo when he contracted with the Golden Gate Club. At his best in numbers like "Stardust" and "The Ruby and The Pearl" he has displayed amazing versatility in teaming with Larry Allen for some of the comedy numbers and they both reach full stature as singers in their classical arrangement of "Jezebel" which is includes in this album"
