Rock (Doo-Wop)
Hailing from Hartford, Connecticut, Larry Harper and his group the Embers recorded songs for Gene Pitney and others September 1958. The first three CD tracks are the earliest recordings, a cappella versions of "Darkness," "So Tired," and "Tremble With Love." Taking the stage name Larry Lee, Larry Harper recorded "Lover's Night" with Embers in 1958, then recorded "Stolen Love," and "Can I Be In Love" in 1960 with the four Bell Aires. He often performed with the Four Bell Aires locally. In late 1960, Larry joined Serenade where they competed at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, taking the top prize two weeks in a row. Then, Larry Harper and Serenade recorded "Dreams Of Heaven" a cappella. Music was added later. In the 1980s Larry joined the Hartford, Connecticut group Legacy and was lead singer on a number of songs.
