Rock and Blues
LAVA appears as a psychedelic jam band from Göteborg/Sweden - not to confuse with other identically named acts which are known and allocated more or less all over the world for example like a german band from the early 70s. It all started in 2003 when some musicians came together to have fun and to realize their full potential. Some line-up changes and collaborations with poets and performers followed. They played several concerts at usual but also unusual places all over in Sweden and are now consisting of seven respectively eight members for a longer time. Except some live recordings which were put on music cassette they released their first songs in 2008 on the austrian Sulatron label. The self-named album contains six tracks - mostly free form jams which they never had played live before. The band defines a wide range of influences from american westcoach psych to canterbury on their myspace site. Similiarities to other known swedish jam bands like ORESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE, KAABEL or BLAND BLADEN are unmistakable but LAVA offers more transitions to krautrock with the emphasis on a hypnotic and trance mood combined with weird elements.
