Jazz and Classical (Experimental, Avant-garde, Free Improvisation)
Formed in 1995, Lazy is an avant garde duo from Melbourne, Australia, comprising Dave Brown (guitar) and Sean Baxter (Drumkit). The instrumentation in this recording of seven extant improvisations is stark in its simplicity. Sean Baxter plays drum kit with his hands and other utensils. Dave Brown (a.k.a. candlesnuffer) plays a stratocaster electric guitar unplugged but with microphones placed very close to the instrument. The resultant works have startling dynamics, with a strong feeling of compositional development. The seven improvised works appear in the order they were recorded in the one session by James Wilkinson (of bucketrider, in which he performs alongside David and Sean, as well as Tim O'Dwyer and Adam Simmons). Each piece has been titled with a mathematical formula. Or as Sean Baxter puts it "microsonics explores the sounds and textures of microscopic acoustic gestures, produced with prepared electric guitar, drum kit and percussive junk. This is rarefied free improvisation which, though focused on miniscule sounds, is best appreciated at frighteningly loud volumes--a kind of inverse noise-grind/shitcore experience." http://www.drjimsrecords.com.au/release.php?catno=31
