Learning from Las Vegas was founded in the early 1990’s by leadsinger and songwriter Klaus Mandal Hansen. The name was taken from Robert Venturis book on postmodern American architecture. After some demos and touring in Germany, the band was ready for their debut-cd in 1996, where Memory Babe came out on Crunchy Frog including a collection of indierocksongs like Ten Thousand Songs and Bittersweet and Slightly Hungover, that pretty much sum up the intentions of the album: to rock out and touch your heart at the very same time. The next album Petit Bourgeois was recorded during the summer of 1998 at Tambourine Studios in Sweden, made by the The Cardigans. It was released in January 1999 and contained a more complex bunch of songs. The cd was more moody and melancholy than the debut, mainly caused by some personal experiences of Klaus Mandal, including the death of a good friend, who was struck by lightning. The entire album was dedicated to that friend. Another reason of the different sound was the fact that the other bandmembers had been replaced by the now still present and musicians and that they were no longer a trio but was including keyboards, vibraphones and a female singer on a couple of songs. Learning from Las Vegas released their third album on Crunchy Frog entitled, Richard and Liz in the fall of 2003 (in Denmark). The album was recorded and produced by Thomas Troelsen from labelmates Superheroes at his studio, Deltalab in suburban Copenhagen. The album shows a more direct and rocky side of the band.
