At The Cockpit

Album AU 1965 on W & G label
Jazz, Rock and Latin (Rock’n’Roll, Easy Listening)

Cover Photography: Abbey Studios Cover Layout: Karen This recording was made possible by the co-operation of Federal Hotel's Ltd. Rear sleeve notes as follows: Some years ago when GTV - Channel 9's "In Melbourne Yonight" first came on the air, audiences in Victoria were able to see and hear for the first time a talented performer who had hitherto been only visible in the more fortunate habitats of many of Australia's exclusive hotels and clubs. As a pianist and conductor of the GTV-9 studio orchestra, LEE GALLAGHER in his first year won an official seal of approval in the form of the TV Year Book Award for the "Most Versatile Combination on TV". After resigning from GVT-9, Lee formed a fast moving, variety packed entertainment unit at The George Hotel, St. Kilda, immediately lifting attendances to an all time high. Then with the opening of Melbourne's largest and most modern hotel, The Southern Cross, who else could the management select to entertain the diners in their palatial Mayfair Room? The Lee Gallagher Trio then received an attractive offer to transfer their activities to The Cockpit Lounge at Melbourne Airport. Lee ably assisted by Johnny Moore on bass and guitar, and Alan Turnbull on drums are currently attracting large crowds to this modern rendezvous above passenger terminal at Essendon. It is indeed a treat to wine, dine, and listen to the music and vocals of the Trio, at the same time observing the arrival and departure of jet liners before a magnificent backdrop of Melbourne by night. This group has such a proven record of giving the public what they want - from Latin American to jazz - that W & G are proud to have the opportunity to present an example of the artistry of THE LEE GALLAGHER TRIO.
