NEVEZ ZDERIC - GUITAR - VOX STEPHEN METCALFE - DRUMS VALERIOS CALOCERINOS - BASS LEMON AVENUE formed in 1990 in Sydney Australia. The band experimented with sound for 18 months before writing a single song. Their focus was on trusting each other as musicians and creating original music that would divide audiences. Lemon Avenue are a hard band to catergorise as their sound is drawn from many emelements both musically and emotionally. It came as no surprise that the band was received much more widely in Europe and although not a Goth Band they regularly appeared on many Goth and Dark Wave compilations. Their first single “THE AXEMAN” was also the first release for the label LEFT AS IN SINISTER. Their first Album LOVE AND NECROMANCY (with no ‘a’ or ‘b’ sides just ‘purple’ and ‘black’ sides) was a testament to the fact that LEMON AVENUE did not fit into any one genre. Produced by Tom Kazas, the album received great reviews and is still highly regarded as a piece of Australian eclectic history. The record was dedicated to Mark Bolan, Kahlil Gibran and Heironymous Bosch. The band performed tirelessly and regulars at their shows would not know what to expect. The band would at times play an electronic set using backing tapes or an acoustic set using double bass, percussion and various other instruments but most often as an electric band using standard instruments, Bass, guitars and Drums. Lemon Avenue were revered for their energy and innovative sound and quickly became a popular Sydney live act. Stephen left the band and replacement drummer (Peter "Sloth" Zantey - Sadistik Exekution) filled his shoes for a short time Valerios has continued to summon Neven for his avante garde guitar style on various recording and live projects.
