Leonid Bobylev (b. 1949) is a Russian composer, musicologist, and pianist, an Honored Artist of Russia, professor at the Moscow Conservatory since 1997. He graduated from the Tula College of Music in 1968 and Moscow Conservatory in 1973, and received a PhD degree in 1979. Bobylev worked at the Tula College of Music in 1973–79 and began lecturing on composition and polyphony at the Moscow Conservatory in 1977. As a composer, Leonid Bobylev wrote seven operas, ten concerts, symphony and a ballet, a few concerti grossi, oratorios and cantatas, as well as chamber music for solo instruments and ensembles. His music had been performed in Soviet Union, USA, Mexico, England, Italy, Austria, Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Yugoslavia, Czech Republic and other countries. For many years, Bobylev had been giving concerts and workshops with Elena Dimitriou-Vasileva (soprano vocals) as a creative Vocalise duo. Their recitals are accompanied by detailed commentaries in Russian, English, or French. Bobylev is the author of two studies: The History and principles of Teaching Composition in the First Russian Conservatories of St.-Petersburg and Moscow (1992) and Russian Composer Pedagogy: Tradition, Personality, Schools (2014).
