The Gitans de Sarajevo [The Gypsies of Sarajevo] play music from the Balkans and Eastern Europe, pushing traditional Gypsy airs into a modern context. Goran Jezdimir and Boris Bartula originally met at Sarajevo's Academy of Music. Years later, they bumped into each other in Montreal and thus the musical collaboration known as the Gitans de Sarajevo began. Due to their love of music, seven musicians (all of former Yugoslav origin) have decided to overlook their backgrounds, be it Serbian, Croatian or Muslim, and have united together to play Gypsy music. The origins of Gypsy music, its nomadic lifestyle and its joyously melancholic airs, is something that all of these musicians share and have in common.
