Liam Teague is a steelpan performer and composer from Trinidad and Tobago, an Associate Professor and Head of Steelpan Studies at the Northern Illinois University. Often praised as the Paganini of the Steelpan, Teague travelled with his instrument all over the world to Europe, Asia, Australia, USA, Central America and the Caribbean. He has performed with many diverse ensembles, including Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, Vermeer String Quartet, Starlift Steel Orchestra, University Of Wisconsin Marching Band, Chicago Sinfonietta, Dartmouth Wind Ensemble, TCL Group Skiffle Bunch Steel Orchestra, and others. Teague has collaborated with such prominent musicians as Paquito D'Rivera, Robert Chappell, Dave Samuels, Zakir Hussain, and Evelyn Glennie. He also commissioned some composers to write original pieces for steelpan, including Michael Colgrass, Jan Bach, Libby Larsen, and Joey Sellers. Teague won of a number of notable competitions such as the Trinidad and Tobago National Steelband Festival Solo Championship and the Saint Louis Symphony Volunteers Association Young Artiste Competition. He also gave presentations at several Percussive Arts Society International Conventions (PASIC) and many educational institutions.
