Linda Martell was the first African-American female vocalist to perform at the "Grand Ole Opry" show. In 1969 she signed with Shelby Singleton’s Plantation label. That summer she made the Top 25 with “Color Him Father,” which helped her become the first Black woman to sing at the Grand Ole Opry (the first of 12 appearances) and to appear on the popular television show, "Hee Haw." Country Music pioneer Linda Martell is Marilyn Mariani First Cousin.
