Band, 1977-1984 GB, Northamptonshire
R&B/Soul and Dance
Pop - disco group Formed in 1977 in Brackley in Northamptonshire, U.K. by singer Ellie Hope and bassist Ray Knott, when Babe Ruth disbanded. Both of them had played in their last album "Kid's Stuff" in 1976. They recruited guitarist Syd Twynham and drummer Wally Rothe and they were named Dream Coupe. Producer Adrian Baker was impressed by Ellie Hope's voice and signed them to Creole Records. Their three first singles didn't chart but "Dance Yourself Dizzy" reached No.2 in U.K. charts and No.26 in the U.S. Hot Dance Charts in 1979 followed by "Substitute" in 1980 (No.8 UK). These were their biggest hits from the dozen singles they have released in their career. They released one self titled album in 1979. In 1981 keyboardist Franco Morruzzi was added to their line up and in 1983 guitarist Syd Twynham and drummer Wally Rothe left the group. Their last hit was "What's She Got" released in 1983 at Critique a single that reached No.52 U.S. R'n'B charts and No.23 U.S. Hot Dance charts. They disbanded in 1984.
