Jazz, Folk and World
LoKkhi TeRra are a critically acclaimed UK based band mixing the different traditions that surround them in London - whether its Cuban rumba with Bengali folk, or Afro-beat played on Asian and Latin instruments, or South African township mixed with Indian classical and funk. Led by pianist Kishon Khan (Hugh Masekela, Giles Peterson's Havana Cultura, winner of SAIFF award New York for best original soundtrack 2009). Featuring the Godfather of British Asian Percussion Pandit Dinesh (Michael Jackson, Kiki Dee). Cuban maestro percussionists Oreste Noda (Ska Cubano, Jazz Jamaica) and Randy Lester on Congas, and fellow Cuban Jimmy Martinez (Asere, Mano de dios) on bass. UK's Phil Dawson (Tony Allen, Mulatu Astatke) on guitar alongside Turk-Cypriot drummer Tansay Omar (Bjork, Natural Rhythm Poets). A horn section to die for, consisting of Justin Thurgur (Bellowhead, Dele Sosimi) on Trombone, Graeme Flowers (Kyle Eastwood, Kylie Minogue) on trumpet, Finn Peters (Nosferatu, Fire-collective) on flute and sax, and Pakistani bansuri player Haider Rahman. To add to this impressive list, Bengali singers Sohini Alam, Aneire Khan, and Aanon Siddiqua sing alongside Cuban vocalist Javier Camilo.
