Lontano

British ensemble founded in 1976 by Odaline De La Martinez and Ingrid Culliford, mostly dedicated to twentieth and twenty-first century music. Lontano takes the form of a flexible group of between five and twenty virtuoso musicians. In Britain, its work ranges from its own innovative concert seasons and education project in London to performances and recordings all over the UK. Lontano has a high reputation abroad and the group's foreign tours have taken them all over Europe as well as to the United States, Canada, and Latin America. Each year, Lontano commissions and performs many new works and is particularly committed to promoting the work of British and women composers as well as introducing the work of foreign composers. Lontano set up its own label Lorelt in 1992.
