Single 1960 on Cook label
Reggae, Folk, World and (Calypso)
A non-album single, one of Melody's best known singles as it is fondly remembered from carnival season that year. The February 1960 recording date aside, this was probably released at the height of summer. The Iceman is about a street seller who sells many food items, which include ice cream, plantains, fresh fish, bottles of beer and salt nuts, and so on. His services would be particularly appreciated on a hot summer's day. Polly Carr is about a strange man who performs superhuman feats. His name may have been intended to be Paulie but printed as Polly due to a spelling mistake. Both sides are credited to Pat Castagne. He was known for writing Trinidad's national anthem, used when the country became independent.
