Loren J. Zimmer

Loren Zimmer is an audio engineer with The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Originally from Eagle, Nebraska, his career in the Air Force Band began in 1998. A graduate of Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska, Zimmer received an associate's degree in audio recording technology. After winning an audition with the Band in 1998, he began work as a live sound engineer with the Concert Band and Singing Sergeants. His skills as a studio engineer and digital editor landed him a position in the Band's new recording control room. In 2001, he transitioned to work full time in the recording studio where he helped coordinate the transition from a small 32-channel tape-based system to a 96-channel computer-based system. Under the tutelage of Charles Harbutt, a Grammy Award-winning engineer, Zimmer helped make the Band's recording studio rival any commercial facility on the East Coast. During his time in the studio, Zimmer had the opportunity to work with artists such as Melinda Doolittle, Arturo Sandoval, and Jo Dee Messina as part of the Band's Veterans Day television specials. His work on those shows garnered him two regional Emmy Awards as well as being inducted into his alma mater's Hall of Success in 2014. He continues to work for the Band as a live audio engineer in addition to his work on various studio recording projects. Outside of his Air Force duties, Zimmer is heavily involved in his church, serving as a trainer, mentor, advisor, and Lead Front of House mixer. He also enjoys working with unmanned aerial photography and videography systems.
