Danish vibraphone player and composer. Born July 30 1932 in Århus, Denmark. Died December 29 2008 in Herlev, Denmark. Louis Hjulmand was active on the jazzscene in his hometown, Århus, before moving to Copenhagen in 1959 were he started to play at the famous Montmartre with visiting end expatiate american musicians, such as Stan Getz, Brew Moore and Oscar Pettiford. He was professional musicians from 1960. From the middle of the seventies he had to take up other jobs for a living but continued playing and was active on the live-scene, although only on rare occasions, until the year of his death. Hjulmand was voted danish jazz-musician of the year in 1963. Brother of clarinetist Hugo Hjulmand
