Psychedelic rock band from Sheboygan, WI. Loyal Opposition got together in the Summer of 1967 when ex-members of Wisconsin garage bands Bent Set, Phobia, Chancellors and The Primates joined forces. The band gained fame on the local club circuit and went on to record a single Pondering / Love Has Come Your Way with producer Al Posniak (of Golden Catalinas fame) on 1 January 1969. After the test pressings arrived Posniak decided to re-write the lyrics of Pondering and a new version, now called Telling Lies, was recorded and eventually released. Loyal Opposition did further recordings with Posniak but they remain unreleased. The band played their final show in August 1969 but guitar players Carl Weinberger and Rick Gustafson kept on playing together in bands such as Parque, Job and Smile until 1973. Both remained musically active even after that. Loyal Opposition celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2007 and got back together for one show. After that the band performed occasionally until the demise of Carl Weinberger in February 2018.
