Luca Collivasone

Band,

A.k.a. Luca Luigi Collivasone L#Collivasone

Luca Collivasone-Improviser-composer-performer. Inventor of the CACOPHONATOR, the concrete sound generator. Fascinated, ever since he was a young punk, by experimental and industrial music, expecially that made out of raw material and junk, in 2013 started is artcraft project consisting in modyfing an old 1940 SINGER sewing machine and converting it to a concrete sound generator, obviously futurist composer Luigi Russolo and his intonarumori was of great inspiration. Luca Collivasone worked the whole year of 2013 in his garage on that machine not knowing if his idea had any chance to reach a good end.The project had many modification during his construction process but finally the Cacophonator was succesfully created. Surprisingly, the reborn sewing machine, produced a vast arrey and palette of quirky noises smooth sounds and weird aural effect. Doc. Loohsharp is an avid composer, so instantly he decided to pay tribute to his invention and started immediately to write down some stuff and have it ready for a record and live acts. The CACOPHONATOR essentially generate concrete sounds out of every sort of material ( springs, crank wheels, rubber bands etc etc) each sound is picked up by transducers mics then routed to a mixer, this mixed sound could be:filtered by pedal effects, looped, captured as a sample and then reorganized live....immagination is the limit. No MIDI, keyboards, laptops or desktop computers are used. The lack of precision in intonation and the barely unpredictable type of sounds and notes force the composer to imagine different scenarios and follow different routes "on the fly". "I was getting very lazy with all that big offer of sounds and softwares, i felt like my imagination was guided by that software and sequencer...." The sovrabundant offer of sounds collections and iper sophysticated softwares may lead the musician to lazyness, confusion, sleepy imagination. the CACOPHONATOR rely only on objects, the choice is not so limited but the machine itself got it's own "avaiable space"; the player must use his imagination if he want to expand the palette of sound and the way to use it... few options force the player to work on what he got avaiable at the moment, force him to pay more attention to the aural dimension, the physical gesture influences the sonic result, more time is devoted on playing the cacophonator more are the chances to build up and refine an active imagination ( opposed to a passive and guided one); the act of composing is pretty like a dancer that try to figure out an original dance combining the steps he already knows with the ones that could happen while improvising with his own feet and body. what seems a limitation could be an opportunity. We are livin the era of abundance of everything, that's good if we can manage it and still keep control over it...the CACOPHONATOR reminds me that everytime I have the occasion i'm prone to fill my bags, pockets and house of a multitude of unusefull unknown and frequently stupid stuff, I'm a human being.
