Album DE 2003 on WERGO label
Electronic and Classical (Contemporary, Experimental)
DVD-Audio: contains five compositions by Ludger Brümmer. DVD-Video: contains the same five compositions by Brümmer, two of which are accompanied by videos by Silke Braemer (tracks 2 and 4, the later of which is titled "Le temps s'ouvre"). DVD-Data: contains 8 aiff-files, one for each channel of Brümmer's 8-channel composition "Inferno Der Stille". On this DVD, Ludger Brümmer's works are presented for the first time in their original, multi-channel format. Each and every detail of these works was created with the computer: the algorithmically defined compositional structures, the sound generation and processing, the spatial distribution of the sounds among the loudspeakers surrounding the listeners. This DVD also includes two videos with four-channel music created by Ludger Brümmer in collaboration with the video artist Silke Braemer. Technically, this DVD is a unique document of the many ways DVD technology can be used in the service of the most musically demanding work. In the audio section of this DVD, all multi-channel compositions are available in linear PCM mode, that is, without data reduction, in 16 or 24 bit (depending upon the original computational format) and with a sampling rate of 48 kHz. In the video section of the DVD, the music is additionally encoded in Dolby Digital (AC-3) as well as in dts. This offers the possibility of switching back and forth between different encodings of the same piece in order to explore how different technical processing affects the sonic properties of the music. For reasons of DVD-compatibility, the composition "Inferno der Stille," which was originally created in an eight-channel version, is included in the audio and video section in five-channel mode, since there are no DVD players that output eight channels. The original eight channels are to be found on the DVD-ROM partition as individual AIFF-files. These files can be opened with harddisk recording systems, for example, for the purpose of presenting the composition in concert with eight discrete channels.
