Costa Rican singer/songwriter Luis Angel Castro began his solo career at the age of 17. After he graduated from Costa Rica University, holding a philosophy degree, the talented artist decided to get involved in music, his real passion ever since he started attending classes at the age of nine. In 1983, Luis Angel Castro came in first place after participating in a university festival with his song "Cocorí." He soon toured around South America, recording his first album, called Autoretrato, in cassette format in 1984. After issuing 1987's Retratos, 1991's Contra El Viento, and joining different local and international festivals, Luis Angel Castro released his first compact disc, called Puerto Viejo, in 1996. Two years later, he founded his own label, Walaba Productions. In 1999, local ACAM nominated him for Best Composer and Music Author of the Year.
