Alternative
American post-punk, synth-rock band from San Antonio, Texas. The roots of the group formed in 1981 under the name Platform of Youth and featured members Mark Semmes ( ex- The Rejects (8)), Christopher English Smart ( Chrysta Bell ) and Jeff Decuir ( Hyperbubble ), creator of the name Lung Overcoat, which the band adopted in 1983 after his departure. Lung Overcoat's first vinyl release contained both Platform of Youth material and new material. Their second release, "Climbing Up the Hill", featuring keyboardist/guitarist Charles Gruber (2), consisted of all new material and is one of the earliest synthpop vinyl releases from San Antonio. In their six year history, the group toured the states and played support for the Butthole Surfers, Poison 13, Section 25, the B-52s and A Flock of Seagulls. The group disbanded in 1987.
