When we created the Lustfaust project between 2004 and 2005 we knew that whatever recordings we made would need ‘deteriorating’ to give the effect of low quality live recordings. These tracks are the original, higher quality recordings. They’re still quite primitive and DIY in places so by no means ‘professional’. We would later play them back through a PA and re-record with all of the terrible acoustics and low audio fidelity we had imagined. Many tracks feature Patrick Farmer on percussion. Most other instrumentation is played by myself (Murray S Ward). Vocal duties were split between Jamie Shovlin and myself (mine are the least ‘German’ sounding as I’m terrible at accents). Finally Mike Harte, Roderick Warner and David Teledu appear in the odd snippet here and there. Whilst producing the project’s audio and visual materials we developed a vast store of information and discussion as we threaded various narratives into one, near complete, ‘history’ of Lustfaust. Much of this history simply supports the project from the peripheries and has never been publicly exhibited. Many materials from our ‘wiki’ were included in the original download (now out of print), offered without context and inviting you instead to explore them and draw your own lines of meaning.
