From the soundcloud release page: In 1990 Lycia signed to Projekt Records. Projekt's interest was based on the earlier released Wake (on Orphanage Records) as well as numerous rough demos. But just prior to the official signing Lycia member John Fair left the band to join an established band as a touring member. Lycia's plans were abruptly changed and Mike VanPortfleet moved the band in a completely new, and at times much more aggressive direction. New member Will Welch brought in harsher elements and the new Lycia moved ahead with their debut CD for Projekt. The release was to be called Byzantine. After a productive and creative start the sessions derailed as VanPortfleet and Welch's visions moved in very different directions. During the mixdown Byzantine was aborted. Technical issues and a lack of final focus doomed the completion. Mike VanPortfleet regrouped and moved ahead alone in a more ambient direction with new and revamped material. The end result was Ionia and Lycia's future path was set. These are some of the songs from the Byzantine sessions, some initial rough mixes and other mixed years later.
