Track A1 is a lullaby (oriori). Track A2 is a lament (tangi). Track A3 & B7 is a lament of the Tuhoe tribe. Track A4 is a love song (waiata aroha). Track B1 is a death chant (maemae), sung at the death of Wahineiti, a Ngati Raukawa chieftain. Track B2 is an incantation (karakia), supplicating the god of the forsts, Tanemahuta. Track B3 is an incantation belonging to the Te Arawa people. Track B4 is an ancient sentinel alarm. Track B5 is a canoe hauling song. Track B6 is a canoe hauling song which has evolved into an welcome chant (powhiri). Track B7 is lament of the Tuhoe tribe.
